Literary moves at Law Firm

Fast growing law firm Gillespie Macandrew LLP has become a major backer of this year's Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The capital-based law firm is sponsoring two important literary events, the sign language interpreting service at all events, both adults and children's, and disabled facilities which are available at the Festival.

Top selling author Alexander McCall Smith, whose No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books have become international hits, will be appearing in the RBS Main Theatre, while former head teacher and literacy expert Sue Palmer, author of Toxic Childhood, will be examining the influence of contemporary culture on children's development at the RBS Children's Theatre. Both events take place on August 18.

Derek McCulloch, Head of Corporate & Business Law at Gillespie Macandrew, said:
"Following last year's successful sponsorship, we are very pleased to have increased our support of the Edinburgh International Book Festival which is recognised worldwide as the premier event of its kind."

The firm has more than doubled in size over the last two years following a series of mergers and last year saw its first foray into the Festival when it successfully sponsored a talk by top Scottish crime writer Ian Rankin.

Book Festival Director Catherine Lockerbie said: "We're delighted to have Gillespie Macandrew as a major sponsor of the Edinburgh International Book Festival. It's incredibly important to have the support of the business community in the sustained developed of the world's largest public celebration of books.

"In addition to sponsoring two important events at this year's Book Festival, we are very grateful to Gillespie Macandrew for their support in making the Book Festival site fully accessible to people with disabilities."
