Sporting Rates - “Stage 2” and Appeals

The Valuation Office has now embarked on “Stage 2” of the process of considering sporting rates across Scotland.

Stage 2 relates to considering “associated buildings” such as game larders, rearing pens, dog kennels, bothies, and anything else used in connection with the exercise of sporting rights.

Meanwhile, there might be merit in lodging an appeal against the Stage 1 assessment.  Stage 1 assessments may be challenged on a number of grounds, from the wrong person having been given the notice, to the land being incorrectly classified. Note however that the deadline for lodging an appeal is six months from the date you received the assessment notice, in most cases before 31 March 2018.
