I mentioned in my last entry a farming business's restoration of
a disused cottage for holiday lets and how impressed I was at the
way the building had been used. The development made obvious
sense in cash flow and capital enhancement terms but there were
other things that were equally uplifting. Miles of hawthorn
hedging had been planted. A new pond was planned. There
were economic reasons for the former but not the latter. Here
were farmers that liked birdsong and trout feeding on the surface
of the water. I left the farm with my spirits raised.
