Child Contact: urgent update following UK lockdown

Last night’s announcement that the UK is now in a state of lockdown has prompted a large number of enquiries from separated parents who, quite understandably, are unsure  whether it is appropriate, or indeed permissible, to continue with their current care arrangements that involve children moving between two homes. It has also led to an increase in misinformation in the media on this particular issue. The guidance published by the UK Government last night confirmed that “where parents do not live in the same household, children under 18 can be moved between their parents’ homes.” Clearly, there will be circumstances where it is not in a child’s interests to do so. If you are concerned about the effect continuing to share care during the coronavirus outbreak will have on you, your child or those around you, please contact Ashley McCann or Melissa Strachan in our family law team who can provide guidance.
