Ross has extensive experience advising energy developers, major utility companies, and landowners on renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Scotland. He regularly acts for leading utilities and developers on solar and battery storage developments, onshore and offshore wind projects, and grid reinforcement works, providing commercial and pragmatic advice on complex land and property matters.
Ross frequently acts on behalf of large utility companies in support of network upgrade projects, securing essential land rights for cabling and associated infrastructure required to facilitate the transition to net zero.
Ross also has specialist expertise in crofting issues arising in renewable energy projects. In addition, he regularly advises landowners on residential and mixed-use developments, including new housing schemes and new town developments.
Sector expertise includes:
- Advising a multinational developer on the onshore land, property and third-party interfaces associated with a proposed 4.1GW offshore wind farm
- Securing Scottish Land Court consent for a section 19A Scheme for Development to facilitate access rights for an onshore wind farm, including crofting law considerations
- Advising a developer on the land and property aspects of a nationally significant pumped storage hydro project, including complex access rights, infrastructure corridors, and long-term operational land arrangements
- Advising a landowner on an onshore wind farm development capable of powering approximately 95,000 homes, involving complex crofting law and agricultural tenancy issues
- Advising a landowner on the repowering of one of Scotland’s oldest wind farms, including the restructuring of land rights and interface with legacy agreements
- Supporting the firm’s Planning Team on the land and property aspects of Compulsory Purchase Orders
- Advising on the sale of land to facilitate the installation of a 2GW HVDC subsea cable, including cable corridors rights and interface with statutory undertakers
- Procuring and negotiating cabling and access rights for a proposed 72MW solar energy park with 45MW battery storage, including ancillary infrastructure
- Advising clients on and securing land agreements for a proposed 120MW onshore wind farm in the Scottish Borders
- Providing strategic land and property advice to a multinational developer in relation to a proposed carbon capture power station
- Advising a landowner on land agreements for a solar and battery development in Coupar Angus with an installed capacity of up to 98MW
