Donald Winskill
Associate, Private Client
Donald prepares Wills that save tax, minimise the impact of care costs, and pass his clients’ wealth to the right beneficiaries at the right time. He addresses complexities that often arise from second marriages or if there are young or vulnerable individuals.
Donald also advises on the inability to make decisions due to illness, injury or simply old age, and how best to use Powers of Attorney and Guardianships to anticipate and meet these challenges. Since joining the firm in 2002, he has worked closely with many charities operating in this field, presenting workshops and contributing to publications aimed at families caring for relatives with disabilities. He was the first Edinburgh-based Solicitor to be accredited as a specialist in incapacity & mental disability law.
Although much of Donald’s work focuses on making appropriate arrangements for death (which is a certainty) and incapacity (which isn’t), his clients often express both surprise and relief that he is able to help them without unnecessary doom and gloom.
